What is Abdominal Sculpting?
While a toned stomach can usually be achieved through a healthy diet plan and exercise, those "washboard" abs many patients want are extremely difficult and in some cases impossible for everyone to have. If you'd like a defined stomach with a clear "six-pack," board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kevin Hanz performs ab sculpting at his practice in Dallas, TX. An extremely refined liposuction technique, ab etching can help to remove small amounts of stubborn fat from your middle and define your abdominal muscles. Contact Kevin R. Hanz, M.D. Aesthetic Plastic Surgery to learn more about how you can sculpt a six-pack today.

"Botox done right! My husband and I tried Botox for the first time and Dr. Hanz was gentle and caring. He let us decide what we wanted and what we were comfortable with. There was no "you should get this, or you need this" - Dr. Hanz is the kind of doctor we all need. I will definitely be going back. Thanks Dr. Hanz!"- T.O. / Google / Dec 19, 2020
"After searching for the perfect doctor to give me my dream body for 3 years I finally found the doctor for me! I got liposuction and a Brazilian butt lift from Doctor Hanz and he absolutely exceeded my expectations. I could not be happier and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone! He did exactly what I asked for and then some. I was nervous about having a fake looking butt and he gave me the most perfect round athletic looking butt. I had a pooch and love handles for the longest time and they are completely gone! All the other doctors I met in the past didn't really seem like they cared, but Dr Hanz listened to me with patience and answered all of my questions thoroughly! I am so grateful I met him and chose him to give me the body I have been wanting for years. The procedure was not under anesthesia and I recovered so quickly. If I could give 100 stars I would!"- D.B. / Google / Oct 13, 2020
"I had lipo 360 with Dr. Hanz. I didn't experience any pain during thanks to the medications. After the procedure I was very sore, but I was back at work at 830a the next day. The soreness has lasted since, but has gotten better & hasn't restricted me from my day to day routine. I was able to shower 48 hours after my procedure so I was able to take the garment off. I knew I was going to be swollen, but even with the swelling I could see visible results. I cried happy tears because I couldn't believe it. The nurses & doctor have been more than amazing throughout this process by checking in & making sure I am doing well. I cannot wait to see my results week after week! **Update** It's been about 10 months since my first procedure. I had my 2nd procedure 2 weeks ago on a totally different area! Much easier recovery since it was just arms and not my entire midsection. Soreness, but nothing keeping me from my everyday routine. I was back at work the next day with this procedure as well. Fabulous procedure, amazing staff, & life-long results that have made me so much more confident."- H.H. / Google / Sep 30, 2020
"Several years ago, I worked as Director for a medical missions organization. This non-profit sent surgical teams to underdeveloped countries to perform highly specialized procedures. Since the cases were particularly complicated, only the most proficient of surgeons were allowed to operate. I was surprised that a doctor with as little experience as Dr. Hanz (at the time), was selected. The group of plastic surgeons appointed to choose the doctors for each trip, recognized Kevin's exceptional skills at an early stage of his career. Fast forward to now, Dr. Hanz is still way ahead of his peers. He has done all the basics for me and my husband, like skin cancer removal, botox and filler. I am now ready to have him do his magic on my 60 year old face! He is trustworthy."- R.M. / Google / Jun 03, 2020
Would I be A Good Candidate for Abdominal Sculpting?
At your consultation, Dr. Hanz will examine your body to decide whether you're a good candidate for abdominal sculpting. To be a good candidate for ab sculpting surgery, you should be in a healthy weight range with the most stubborn areas of fat covering your abdominal muscles. You should have a low body fat percentage (ideally below 20%) and have tried to improve your core using a high-protein diet, regular exercise, and stomach muscle training. Due to hormones, genetics, or pregnancy, you might naturally be unable to get washboard abs and this could be a good solution.
What is the Ab Sculpting Process?
Dr. Hanz performs ab etching as an outpatient surgery in a licensed surgical facility while you are under anesthesia. Throughout the 1 – 2-hour procedure, Dr. Hanz will make one or more small incisions so he can insert a thin, hollow tube (cannula) to remove fat. He will etch the midline linea alba (middle of the abdomen) and the outline of the rectus muscle (where the abs are formed). To reveal a six-pack, Dr. Hanz will define the horizontal lines and transverse inscriptions. Once the fat is removed and the abdominal muscles are fully defined, Dr. Hanz will close the incisions with sutures.
What Should I Expect After My Abdominal Sculpting?
Following your ab sculpt treatment, you will need to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and bruising, which should diminish a couple of weeks after surgery. You may experience mild discomfort following the surgery, but you should be back to work within 5 – 7 days and back to working out about three weeks after surgery. Dr. Hanz does his best to make very small incisions in your stomach's natural creases so the scars should be minimal and hard to see when fully healed. Dr. Hanz or a member of his team will explain how to properly care for your scars so they can heal cleanly and properly.
Abdominal Sculpting FAQ
Is ab sculpting permanent?
After your ab sculpting procedure, you can expect to see the full results in about 3 – 6 months. These results, however, are only permanent if you maintain your weight through regular exercise and a healthy diet. Significant weight gain can affect the results of your ab sculpting procedure.
What does ab sculpting do?
Ab sculpting, also known as ab etching, is a plastic surgery liposuction procedure to accentuate the abdominal muscles. Dr. Hanz will carefully remove fat at specific points in your abdominal area to “bring out” your abdominal muscles. This careful removal of fat highlights the lines of your abdominal muscles, giving a more defined look.
How long does ab etching take?
Ab etching takes about 1 – 2 hours to complete the entire procedure.
Does ab etching hurt?
Dr. Hanz performs ab etching as an outpatient procedure under anesthesia, meaning you are asleep during the procedure. After your procedure, you can expect some level of bruising and swelling during your recovery, but in general, most people will experience little pain or discomfort.
