Having a baby is a very rewarding time in your life, but it can also come with some drawbacks. The most common complaint is that women are unhappy with their post-pregnancy bodies. For those who want a more refreshed look, mommy makeover surgery may be the answer. This procedure is designed to help women regain confidence and self-esteem by contouring areas like their abdomen and breasts.

When undergoing any body contouring surgery, it’s natural to wonder about recovery. So, what should you expect? And are surgical garments required? The answer is that it depends! Kevin R. Hanz, M.D. Aesthetic Plastic Surgery encourages you to meet with a board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Kevin Hanz, for a review of the process in Dallas, TX. We can discuss our treatments and their post-operative guidelines.

What’s involved in your mommy makeover?

In general, a mommy makeover is designed to address any areas of the body that you’re unhappy with after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Sometimes, women get a mommy makeover after significant weight loss. The procedures involved can vary depending upon your pre-op measurements and desired results.

All that being said, most patients at Kevin R. Hanz, M.D. Aesthetic Plastic Surgery will elect for body contouring treatments to address loose abdominal skin, unwanted pockets of fat, and deflated breasts. Our most popular surgeries in Dallas include:

  • Breast lift surgery

  • Breast augmentation with implants

  • Tummy tuck surgery

  • Liposuction of the flanks and lower back

What’s recovery like from a mommy makeover?

Mommy makeover procedures may require a day-long stay at the hospital, depending on the extent of your surgery. Our surgical care team will monitor your progress and send you home with post-operative guidelines, so you experience the best possible outcomes.

You’ll need someone responsible to take you home after surgery, and this person can also care for you during mommy makeover recovery. We suggest patients refrain from strenuous activities and workouts for at least two months. It’s extremely important to give yourself time to heal properly to prevent complications that might impact your results.

Will I need a surgical garment?

A surgical garment, or compression garment, is designed to help patients feel comfortable during mommy makeover recovery. Our plastic surgery center may recommend a fitted garment that can be worn for several weeks. Patients who get a tummy tuck or liposuction are more likely to need a surgical garment. We can provide detailed tips and advice on how to wear it and how long you should wear it after body contouring. Some tips may include:

  • Wear the garment around the clock, including while you sleep and rest

  • Make sure the garment doesn’t get torn or damaged in any way

  • Wash the garment or keep it clean as directed

  • Avoid wearing tight clothing over the garment

  • Get help if the garment feels uncomfortable or too tight
