Platysmaplasty

(Chin Augmentation)

Dr. Kevin R. Hanz is one of the leading platysmaplasty plastic surgeons in Dallas, TX that aims to solve such patients’ problems as jowly chin line, loose and wrinkly neck skin, loss of elasticity (“double chin”, “turkey neck”), and make a distinctive angle between
neck and face.

What is Platysmaplasty Surgery?

Platysmaplasty is another term for neck lift surgery, a procedure which aims to contour the neck for a lifted, more youthful appearance. The platysma is a thin layer of muscle on either side of the neck separated into two sides along the midline, hence the term platysmaplasty surgery. As we age, the connective tissue linking the platysma to the skin becomes loose, giving the appearance of a sagging neck.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A PLATYSMAPLASTY PROCEDURE?

This minimally-invasive neck lift technique can successfully correct a number of common concerns, including:

  • Prominent neck cords or bands
  • Double chin
  • Fatty jowls at the chin and jawline areas
  • “Turkey wattle” skin that is loose and saggy near the center of the neck

The cosmetic benefits of platysmaplasty are significant. However, patients also appreciate that this procedure may be performed on an outpatient basis and that they can recover comfortably at home over the course of one to two weeks.

What Does The Surgery Involve?

The platysmaplasty procedure usually takes between 2 to 3 hours and requires the patient to be under general anesthetic. This surgery is different to a normal neck lift because it focuses on where the platysma muscle is at its weakest, which is under the chin. An incision is made underneath the chin where fat is then removed, usually with liposuction. The platysma muscle is then exposed and brought back together with surgical stitches. The wounds are then closed with more stitches.

How Do I Prepare For The Platysmaplasty Procedure?

We know that choosing to have cosmetic surgery is never a decision taken lightly, which is why we hold consultations before any commitments are made. During this initial consultation, you’ll need to be honest with us about your medical history and surgery expectations. Dr. Kevin Hanz will then discuss the best course of treatment, as well as any downsides there may be to the surgery. Additional precautions that you’ll need to consider include quitting smoking at least 6 weeks prior to surgery, and stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements. We also recommend making arrangements with a family member or friend to assist you after surgery. Although these are some considerations to keep in mind, Dr. Kevin Hanz will review all preparations for before and after your platysmaplasty procedure.

Platysmaplasty Procedure Aftercare Considerations

After your platysmaplasty surgery, you’ll need to wear a special compression garment that will help to reduce the bruising and swelling. The following week after surgery you’ll be checked over in our practice and Dr. Kevin Hanz will answer any questions you may have regarding the recovery process.
